Pygargues \u00e0 t\u00eate blanche dans le Connecticut<\/h2>\n\n

The Shepaug Dam, on the Housatonic River in Southbury, holds a special appeal to the wintering birds because the hydroelectric station\u2019s operation prevents water from freezing, making it easy to feed on fish below the dam. Since it opened in 1985, the Shepaug Eagle Observation Area has hosted about 175,000 visitors to observe the eagles and view exhibits. The program is managed by volunteers from the Connecticut Audubon.<\/p>\n\n

Le pygargue \u00e0 t\u00eate blanche fait son retour gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des efforts intensifs de conservation. L\u2019empoisonnement aux pesticides et l\u2019intervention humaine directe ont d\u00e9cim\u00e9 les populations de pygargues \u00e0 t\u00eate blanche, mais l\u2019interdiction du DDT et des protections juridiques plus strictes, combin\u00e9es \u00e0 des efforts de r\u00e9introduction et de gestion, ont permis aux populations d\u2019aigles de rebondir.<\/p>\n\n

Dans un pass\u00e9 r\u00e9cent, les aigles \u00e9taient rarement vus pendant les mois d\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 dans le Connecticut, car la nidification n\u2019avait pas lieu dans l\u2019\u00c9tat. En 1992, un couple d’aigles a \u00e9lu domicile dans le Connecticut pour ce qui semblait \u00eatre la premi\u00e8re fois en 41 ans. Randonn\u00e9e, pique-nique et p\u00eache<\/h2>\n\n

The area is open for summer hiking, picnicking,and fishing from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The 1\/2 mile\u00a0Shepaug Interpretive Trail<\/a>\u00a0on the shore of Lake Lillinonah describes the diverse roles trees play from shade, to wood products, to food for both people and wildlife. Shepaug Recreation Area also boasts two canoe portages both upstream and downstream of the power station along with two vegetative buffer garden demonstration areas showcasing native plants.<\/p>\n\n
