FirstLight continues its commitment to inclusion with expanded access, sensory-friendly hours, and partnerships aimed at making outdoor recreation accessible for all.

Northfield, MA – May 7, 2025 – FirstLight, a leading clean power producer, developer, and energy storage company, today announced the start of the Spring-Summer 2025 season for recreation activities and enhancements at the company’s Franklin County facilities. Located in the communities of Northfield, Erving, Montague, and Gill – along a beautiful sweep of the Connecticut River – FirstLight will open the Turners Falls Fishway on May 10, campgrounds and boat rentals on May 24, and the Connecticut River Cruise in late-June (weather and river conditions permitting).

Starting this season, FirstLight is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Mass Cultural Council’s Card to Culture Program, which makes cultural programming accessible to low-income families for whom cost is a participation barrier. This new partnership expands on FirstLight’s goals to expand access to recreational activities to all community members. Individuals or families using EBT, WIC, or ConnectorCare cards will be offered free admission to FirstLight’s narrated Connecticut River Cruise.

Last year, FirstLight partnered with the Autism Alliance to become an Autism Welcoming and sensory-responsive business. For the 2025 season, sensory kits will be available at the Turners Falls Fishway and certain Connecticut River Cruises will be designated as sensory-friendly. FirstLight will also continue its tradition of providing library passes to the local libraries that residents can check out to use for boat rentals at Barton Cove or for the Connecticut River Cruise.

“FirstLight is proud to offer a wide variety of recreational opportunities that highlight the natural beauty of Franklin County and bring the community together,” said Andy Brydges, Director of Community Relations for FirstLight. “We are dedicated to making our outdoor experiences accessible to everyone, and this year we are excited to join the Mass Cultural Council’s Card to Culture Program. By expanding these opportunities, we’re reinforcing our commitment to inclusion and community support, ensuring that more people can enjoy the outdoors and the many activities that we are proud to operate as part of our clean energy facilities.”
